This underwater camera is different from any other I’ve used. The Nikon AW1is ready to descend to 49 feet without a housing, and it’s mirrorless, which means I can press the button while diving or snorkeling and get an instant shot, leaving no time for fish to flee in fear. It can also be dropped from almost 7 feet without damage, a major plus for a travel photographer. So too are the interchangeable lenses that allow me to adjust the zoom manually without clumsily using a zoom button (like on a point-and-shoot). Geotagging is a cinch with the onboard GPS, but it does run the battery down quickly. I’ve long been a Canon-only guy, but with this camera, I may have to make an exception. From $799.95, nikon.com
