A pioneer in the farm-to-table movement, Oustanding in the Field has perfected the art of pop-up alfresco dining. Led by Chef Jim Denevan, the first event was held in Santa Cruz, California, in 1999, when he set up a table on a local farm and invited diners to a meal celebrating the land. Since the first gathering, hundreds of accomplished chefs — think Top Chefs, and winners and nominees of the James Beard Award — have prepared gourmet meals in pop-up kitchens across the U.S. and 10 countries. The dinner setting: a long table amid gorgeous scenery, from vegetable fields and fruit orchards to beaches and mountaintops to barns and greenhouses.

In 2015, the event even traveled to Fujisan Winery in Shizuoka, Japan. (Imagine dining while overlooking Mt. Fuji!) We’re especially excited because the 2016 winter tour has been announced and three January dinners will be held in Hawaii.

The event at Big Island Abalone Farm in Kailua-Kona features chef Bonita Lao; the Maui Tropical Plantation dinner will highlight cuisine from chef Jeff Scheer of the Mill House; and at Oahu’s Kualoa Ranch in Kaneohe, the guest chef will be Andrew Le from The Pig and the Lady in Honolulu.
