St. Lucia isn’t known for a wide variety of golf options, but the Caribbean island might soon be a destination for golfers from all over the world.
Canadian resort and golf developer Cabot recently broke ground for its first international property, Cabot Saint Lucia, which is located on Point Hardy at the northern tip of the island. In addition to a residential community with single-family homes, this project will feature a 50-suite boutique hotel, three restaurants and an 18-hole golf course designed by Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw. The course is expected to open in 2021.
“With the tropical allure found in Saint Lucia and the magnificent ocean views from every corner of this spectacular site, we feel honored to be involved with such a special property within an incredible country,” explained Ben Cowan-Dewar, CEO and co-founder of Cabot Links.
Cabot Links is widely regarded as one of the best golf courses in the world, so expectations will be high for St. Lucia’s Cabot Point. With that in mind, the design team wants to make golfers “fully embrace the striking scenery” of the region by offering “dramatic clifftop greens” and “meandering valleys leading from the upper elevations to meadows by the sea.” Seven of the course’s holes will run alongside the ocean.
Said Bill Coore: “Our goal is to create a golf course with a sense of enjoyment and interest to complement and hopefully equal the site’s overwhelming natural beauty. If we can accomplish that goal, we believe Cabot Point could become one of the Caribbean’s most sought out courses.”
Cabot Point will also have to set itself apart from the island’s other 18-hole course, Sandals St. Lucia Golf & Country Club at Cap Estate. Golf legend Greg Norman was recently tasked with revamping this par-71 course, with renovations expected to be complete this month.
