Ready to escape the summertime smog, traffic and crowds of Los Angeles? A mountain spring runs through it at Huttopia’s first west coast outpost, Huttopia Paradise Springs, a glamping and outdoors resort in the San Gabriel Mountains that just re-opened its (canvas) doors on July 1, 2022, after its first season (last year) with only limited accommodations.
Situated 90 minutes northeast of Los Angeles, the resort now has 68 wood and canvas tents (56 of which run entirely off solar power!) tucked away within a lush canyon set on 135 acres inside the Angeles National Forest. “Paradise Springs” refers to the artesian spring supplying the otherwise desert-surrounds here, creating an unusually green oasis.
The site once housed a Prohibition-era retreat, the Paradise Mountain Resort and Trout Club, which lured Hollywood types for respite away from the madness of their careers under starlit skies. And even though it’s so close to L.A., Huttopia Paradise Springs promises that same sort of escapism. Today’s guests enjoy hiking, fishing, swimming in the creek and playing pétanque, among other activities.
Accommodations are far from the tent you slapped together at your last camp out, with electricity and beds inside, as well as enclosed decks and barbecue spaces outside(with the option for private bathrooms and camp kitchens, too).
The property is open seasonally through November. Huttopia’s other North American locations include outposts in Southern Maine, New Hampshire’s White Mountains, Quebec and the Adirondacks. The brand also has some 60 locations across Europe.
