If you’ve ever traveled along Puerto Rico’s southeast coast, chances are you were just passing through. There’s never been as many places to stay along this stretch of the island as there are along the north coast around San Juan and elsewhere on the island.
But when the Wyndham Palmas Beach and Golf Resort unveils the results of a multi-million dollar renovation in late May, there will be plenty of reason to settle in here and stay a while.
The oceanfront boutique resort, located close to El Yunque National Park and within Palmas del Mar, is one of Puerto Rico’s most exclusive private communities and has completely overhauled its lobby, guestrooms, restaurants, and common spaces after being acquired by a leading hospitality investment firm, LionGrove.
And the 107-room resort’s new look is all about upscale amenities and materials that play up the property’s spectacular setting.
“The refreshed resort will have a true sense of place thanks to our incorporation of local art and a serene design to highlight the beautiful and natural surroundings of Palmas del Mar,” says Andro Nodarse-León, Founder and CEO of LionGrove.
Boho-inspired decor welcomes you into the redesigned lobby, where soaring ceilings and vast windows create an airy feeling bathed in natural light. Much attention has also been lavished on the resort’s tropical landscaping and onsite amenities, including two gorgeous swimming pools.
The modern Costa Infinity Pool is a favorite for its swim-up bar and al fresco pizza oven. And families will gravitate to the zero-entry Family Pool in front of the restaurant terrace next to Trova Coastal Kitchen, where recipes by James Beard finalist celebrity chefs Jeff McInnis and Janine Booth are brought to life by Puerto Rican chef Julio Cartagena.
Wondering how to keep busy away from the resort’s lovely beach and pools? A stay at Wyndham Palms Beach and Golf Resort grants guests access to many of the amenities in the Palmas del Mar community, including Gary Player and Rees Jones golf courses, the Caribbean’s largest tennis center, an equestrian center for rides along the beach, pickleball, and miles of walking and cycling trails.
